Blink Twice video installation that transformed trees into giant 3D motion faces to surprise public at Summer Set Music Festival.

Trees, so important for our lives, are usually overlooked, just seen as part everyday
landscape. Blink Twice tries to change the way we look at them, turning trees into

Trees, so important for our lives, are usually overlooked, just seen as part everyday landscape. Blink Twice tries to change the way we look at them, turning trees into protagonists of a spectacle in which festival goers must stare at the trees to fully enjoy a 3D motion show.

Blink Twice is a video installation that transforms trees into huge 3D faces that smile,  move, gesticulate and even follow the viewer’s gaze. 3D designs and animations of forest creatures are video projected on trees, generating a show that surprises the public caught off guard.

At Summer Set Festival, in Wisconsin, thousands of festival goers enjoyed the show designed by Mexico DF studio Maizz Visual.

BLINK TWICE AT SUMMER SET MUSIC FESTIVAL

After great success at Wakarusa Festival (Arkansas, USA) and Pemberton Festival (British Columbia, Canada it was the turn for Summer Set Festival, Wisconsin.

A great turnout of over 15.000 festivalgoers enjoyed the 3 days of outdoors music spread over 5 stages and beautiful grounds.

Blink Twice was set by the main path walk between the 2 main campsites, so all the people walking between those could find the blinking faces on the trees. It was a beautiful spot with a great tree line looking over a little pond, which magically reflected the faces on the water.

From 9pm to 4am and from Friday to Sunday thousands of people passed by Blink Twice, looking first at the faces and then approaching the pond to have a better view, sit down and fully enjoy the show.

3D MOTION FACES OF GREEN MEN AND FOREST CREATURES

The faces projected on trees at Summer Set Festival were all Green Men representations. Human like faces covered with leaves and sprouts that seem to have grown on the trees, ancient demigods of popular origin that preserve nature and celebrate the cycle of life in several cultures across the world.

TECHNICAL & SOFTWARE

Blink Twice is a video installation that uses 4 video projectors and optics to generate 3D animations on the tree leaves.

By using various software like Cinema 4D, Aftereffects, Photoshop and Modul8, the Green Men faces are animated and projected over specific trees, creating then an optical illusion that intensifies the 3D experience on viewers.
